It Works
Unlike cellos, musicians are not of identical shape or size. They find themselves
constantly in search for better positions for both body and instrument. The Christian
Benda System takes care of the adjustment necessary to allow each player to find a natural
position.
The Christian Benda System is a device which is attached to the purfling of the
cello at the point where the instrument would touch the musician’s chest. The system
is fixed to the solid part of the wood and does not touch the resonant body of the
instrument.
Using the system prevents body and clothes from muffling the vibrations and,
therefore, increases volume. It consists of an anatomically designed and flexible pad
permitting the regulation of the distance between chest and instrument. The system is
fixed and removed in a matter of seconds and fits any cello.
The major worry for instrument makers and repairers is the corrosion of varnish
and wood caused by rubbing and perspiration. Thanks to the Christian Benda System,
allowing a distance between chest and instrument, this problem is solved.

The Benda system costs 190 Swiss Francs plus 50 Swiss Francs for shipping and handling
(total of 240 Swiss Francs). This equals about $149 US Dollars, plus $39 US Dollars
shipping and handling (total of $188 US Dollars). We do not accept credit cards at
